about
"Pride cometh before the fall" says the proverb. A number of my ancestors were prominent in the American Revolution. One a great (x5) grandfather signed the Declaration of Independence. The river in this song is the Hudson. By a very weird coincidence each of my parents had a great (x4) grandmother in the Clermont Livingston household, their brother Robert being on the committee tasked with writing the Declaration, also the man in large part responsible for the Louisiana Purchase. The sister had to flee when the British burnt the family home. It's a very bad thing to hear the "horsemen at your door".
