I recorded this song on a previous album, but it seemed too over produced. This is from The World Has Changed.

about

A collection of 14 original songs and John's cover of Woody Guthrie's Pretty Boy Floyd coming shortly on CD, available now as a download with two extra original songs but not the Woody Guthrie song

Recorded between 1979 and 2012

In formats ranging from live acoustic performances,
to full band productions Including new songs never before released

This collection showcases some of the best musicians a songwriter could ever hope to work with. My old friend and collaborator Jeff Pevar is on nine of these fifteen tracks, including our earliest recordings from 1979 and the most recent, Lost in America, a song I recorded in one solo performance to which he added his own musical ideas. My years in New York gave me a chance to work with some great players, veterans of tours and sessions with renowned acts like Dylan, Dr. John, Crosby Stills and Nash, the Allman Brothers and many more, but my music has been mainly shaped by the smaller world of New England and eastern Canada where I started out and have done most of my gigs. These recordings draw from both worlds and many different periods. Missing entirely is Jacob's Reunion, my first recording group, but one that stands alone as a truly collective enterprise, not a John Coster project per se though I wrote much of the material.

I hope this collection hangs together for the listener in spite of, or maybe because of the varied musical formats and points of origin. I threw in one Woody Guthrie song.about the bank robber Pretty Boy Floyd for the physical CDs and vinyl.. I liked the way the performance felt with just me and Chris Haynes on piano, and I guess a dig at the banking system seemed more appropriate than ever. But all the other songs are mine. I wrote them because I had to. I think songs can reveal the world around us, but It's not just a matter of expressing what we see in a way that helps us see more.. Hopefully, the music underneath the words somehow activates the emotions we need to deal with the world in all its sorrow and beauty.

This project will also be available soon as a double vinyl and CD combination package with lyric sheets and more graphics. The CDs should be available any day now. I'll be posting about that when my friends at Loudville Records let me know about production schedules.
